Everything you need to know about your training at Melbourne Yoga and Pilates

How do I know what class is for me?

Depending on your goals, we recommend a mix of classes. All our classes will make you fitter, stronger and more flexible if you attend on a regular basis. They all have unique elements – barre has more cardio components, yoga has a strength meditative emphasis while working on increasing flexibility and Pilates works on power in proper alignment. If you have an existing injury, Clinical Pilates is a good place to start. If you are still unsure, the best way to start is our intro 3 for $99 personal training package. You will meet a trainer who can guide you every step of the way, gives you advice on what classes suit you best and teach you basic safe technique. For all queries, send us an email info@melbourneyogaandpilates.com or call us at 9078 7662.

You can still turn up for classes but will be unable to book online.Important: more information on our cancellation policy can be found on our terms & conditions page.

I’m a beginner which classes can I do?

All our classes are multi-level and caters for everyone. However if you’d like a slower-paced class, mat Pilates is a good starting point and generally our morning classes are slower in speed and are less crowded. Alternatively, many beginners find that having a few private classes helps to increase their confidence and reduces the chances of injuries when they join a bigger class. You can book in online, email or call us. We’ll be happy to talk you through. When you attend your first class, please inform the teacher of any injuries you have.

I’ve had an injury or I’m pregnant. What classes are suitable?

If you have an existing injury or are pregnant, we highly recommend starting with Clinical Pilates or an Exercise Physiology initial session. During your consultation, we will be able to offer an individualized approach to taking care of your needs. Your workouts will be safer, more enjoyable and more effective. Send us an email or ring us to make an appointment with our Exercise Physiologists.

Do I need to bring anything?

You will need a mat, water bottle and a towel. If you’re attending Pilates X or Clinical Pilates, you’d need a pair of socks (grippy ones preferred). Alternatively, you can hire a mat for $1, a towel for $2 and purchase a bottle of water for $3. We sell Move Active grippy socks at the studio too for your convenience. All our classes are done in barefeet except personal training.

What are the benefits of becoming a Member?

If you are planning to attend more than one class a week, the membership will be the most cost-effective. It also encourages consistency in your exercise for best results. Our members with the best result has at least once private session a week. You also get invited to special members-only events, regular freebies from us as well as 10% off retail items. Members are also welcome to store their mats for free at the studio.

Do you have changeroom facilities?

Yes we do have changeroom facilities and a shower at the studio. We also have lockers for the safe-keeping of your valuables.

How early should I arrive for class?

All classes start promptly and on time and no latecomers will be allowed in for the safety of everyone in the class. We would advise 10 minutes early arrival to get changed and prepare yourself for the class.  Please sign in at reception.

What if a class is full?

Don’t despair if your favourite class is full, people cancel or change their schedules constantly so the best thing to do is to put yourself on the waitlist. If there is a cancellation, MindBodyOnline will notify you via email that you have a spot. You must be subscribed to our email notifications to receive that. You can be promoted into the class a day before or an hour before. If you do not want to receive last-minute notifications, please remove yourself from the waitlists.
